Herb Tyson serves as Senior Advisor to Scarlet Oak Strategies for state government affairs. In this capacity, Herb helps clients devise and manage their state-based approaches to legislative and procurement strategy.
A long respected and dedicated government affairs professional, Herb has held senior positions engaged in federal, state and local and international public policy. Most recently, Herb was responsible for North American state and provincial relations for a well-known international commercial real estate organization. Herb has had extensive experience with the “big 7” in intergovernmental affairs (NGA, NACo, NLC, CSG, NCSL, ICMA, and USCM). Herb has deep experience across a wide spectrum of industries including consumer products, education, technology, international trade, infrastructure, and procurement.
As a political appointee in the Clinton Administration, Herb served in the US Department of State as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. His office supported US Governors and Mayors on their respective international initiatives. Prior to government service, he was in various top tier financial services and economic development entities. Herb volunteers as a member of the board of directors of the Canadian American Business Council and the Montgomery County Revenue Authority and served in the past on the board of the California Business Properties Association and the American Council of Young Political Leaders.
